Meet the Driving Force
Behind TM Real Estate Group
Matthew Pellar
Chief Executive Officer
- Mr. Pellar brings over 25 years of real estate experience and is responsible for the firm’s overall strategy.
- Prior to founding TM, Mr. Pellar held various positions as VP of development for H&H Development and Terremark Real Estate Group, assistant VP of development for The Related Group of Florida, and associate at US Realty Advisors.
- Collectively, he oversaw all phases of development from entitlements and construction to marketing, lease-up, and sales of over 1,600 condominium and market-rate rental housing units and a 750,000 SF telecom facility. In addition, Mr. Pellar managed all aspects of due diligence and financial modeling for over $925 million in net lease transactions.
- Mr. Pellar holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at NYU and a BA with emphasis in economics from Boston University.
Carlos Alcaraz
Chief Financial Officer
- Mr. Alcaraz joined TM in 2006 and brings two decades of experience in accounting and finance. He is responsible for all accounting and financial functions, including property management, homeowners’ associations, budgets, loan compliance, construction, and taxes.
- Prior to TM, he was CFO of SOL Sotheby’s, a real estate and investment company based in Miami, which grossed over $400 million in annual sales during his tenure.
- Prior to SOL Sotheby’s, Mr. Alcaraz was VP of finance for Empire Seafood, where he was instrumental in the integration and reorganization for the acquisition of a privately held corporation with $140 million in sales by Performance Food Group, the third-largest US food distributor with over $6 billion in sales.
- Mr. Alcaraz gained a solid background in accounting and finance through various positions in accounting at Terremark Worldwide, Fleming Companies, and Ruesch International.
- Mr. Alcaraz holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce in accounting and a CPA degree from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Additionally, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
Rene Gutierrez
Principal, Development
- Mr. Gutierrez brings over 25 years of real estate and multifamily development experience. Mr. Gutierrez cofounded TM Residential in 2012 and has entitled and developed over 4,000 units throughout Florida.
- Prior to founding TM Residential, Mr. Gutierrez was a founding partner of Atlantis Development, a multifamily development company based in South Florida. While at Atlantis Development, Mr. Gutierrez was responsible for the acquisition, entitlement, and development of over 600 townhomes and garden apartments.
- Prior to Atlantis, Mr. Gutierrez held positions as senior project manager for the Cornerstone Development Group and senior financial analyst at Terremark Real Estate Group. Collectively, he oversaw all phases of development from entitlements and construction to marketing, lease-up, and sales of over 3,400 condominium and market-rate rental housing units and a 750,000 SF telecom facility.
- Mr. Gutierrez began his real estate career at Arthur Andersen’s real estate practice as an associate assisting clients with the acquisition and disposition of their income-producing real estate worldwide. His assignments ranged from property valuation and due diligence to transaction execution for offshore accounts and being an on-site owner’s agent.
- Mr. Gutierrez holds a BA and an MBA with concentrations in finance from the University of Miami.
Adnan Tareen
Senior Vice President, Development
- Mr. Tareen is the vice president of TM Residential. Mr. Tareen joined TM Residential in 2018. He has a decade of experience working in the real estate and finance sectors. He is responsible for managing all phases of the development cycle from predevelopment through stabilization.
- Prior to joining TM, Mr. Tareen worked at Atlantic Pacific Communities, where he managed the underwriting, entitlements, sourcing, design, and construction of over 1,000 units in Florida and Texas, including the first LEED for Neighborhood Development project in Florida.
- Previously, he also worked at OneWest Bank, where he provided strategy and analysis in the management of a $1 billion debt portfolio consisting of REOs and distressed loans.
- Mr. Tareen holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MS in real estate development and urbanism from the University of Miami.
Joan Copeland
President, Property Management
- Mrs. Copeland brings three decades of experience in property management. Mrs. Copeland joined TM in 2014 and oversees the day-to-day operations including but not limited to the financial performance, physical occupancy, and marketing of the TM apartment communities, working alongside on-site associates to ensure each property operates at its optimum.
- Prior to TM, Mrs. Copeland served as EVP of operations for Landmark Residential, where she was responsible for the complete oversight of 54 properties. During that time, she visited properties to offer support and assess issues while also putting together due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions.
- Before that, Mrs. Copeland worked for Riverstone Residential and Banyan Realty in Florida, where she repositioned properties and assisted in acquiring new fee businesses and clients.
- Over the course of her career, Mrs. Copeland has been responsible for 110 fee-managed properties in Florida with a total of more than 5,000 affordable units. She has supervised the operation of 34 owner-operated properties totaling 18,000 market-rate units. In addition, she has repositioned several assets in the southeast USA and has designed and implemented effective property management procedures.
- Mrs. Copeland is a Florida real estate licensee and member of CAPS, NAA, and the Bay Area Apartment Association.
Marc Lawrence
Development
- As a new addition to TM Residential, Marc Lawrence brings with him over 20 years of real estate development experience focusing on both multifamily residential and hospitality development. Mr. Lawrence had extensive experience in all phases of property development, including predevelopment, stabilization, and asset management.
- Prior to Joining TM, Mr. Lawrence was a founding partner of LBL Group, a full-service real estate organization that specializes in the strategic planning and execution of operating and development solutions that maximize the value of real estate assets. Mr. Lawrence is currently the owner and developer of The Angler’s Hotel on Miami Beach, a 135-room resort that was honored by Dade County Heritage for Outstanding Historical Renovation.
- Lawrence began his career working for The Related Group of Florida as a senior project manager. His responsibilities included managing deliverables on over 1,100 units on four projects. Mr. Lawrence was recognized on two separate occasions as project manager of the year.
- Lawrence is a founding member and two-term secretary of The Washington Avenue Business Improvement District, a board member of the Miami Dade Preservation League, and appointed by Miami Beach’s Mayor Dan Gelber to be a panel member of the Art Deco/Cultural District advisory committee. Mr. Lawrence actively consults and is sought after to advocate for developers looking to navigate the Miami Beach development process.
- Lawrence earned a BA from the University of Miami, a JD from Nova Southeastern University, and an LLM in real estate law from the University of Miami. He is also a member of the Florida Bar.
